About Arlo Routines, Modes, Rules, and Automations
This article is for the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm or Disarm, please visit: About Arlo Modes and Rules
Modes and Rules let you tell your Arlo system what to do in different situations. Each Mode uses one or more Rules to control your Arlo system.
For example, you can set your Arlo system to record a 30-second video when the motion sensor is activated on a specific camera and alert you with push notifications.
Arlo Modes
Arlo Modes give you control over how your cameras respond to motion or sound. Modes tell your Arlo cameras to respond differently at various times. For example, you probably don’t want to receive an alert about motion when you are at home trying to relax. You might also want to turn on a different Mode when you are away on vacation to better protect your home.
Arlo has three Modes:
Arm Away
Arm Home
Standby
Each Mode is fully customizable based on the level of detection you want. You might want to set one Mode in which some motion sensors and cameras are active, but others are not. For example, when you are sleeping, your exterior cameras can be activated based on the selected Mode, but your interior cameras will be inactive.
Arlo Rules
For each Mode, you can set the Rules for your devices. First, select an available device for the Rule. You can also use devices to trigger other devices; for example, you can set motion on a Video Doorbell, to trigger a different camera to record an alternate view.

To edit Rules:
Note: Changes to settings on the Arlo All-in-One Sensor can take up to five minutes to take effect. To force immediate changes, press the button on the bottom of the All-in-One Sensor.
Arlo Automations
Automate your devices to do what you want when you want. For example, when you leave in the morning, set your Arlo system to automatically change from Arm Home or Standby to Arm Away Mode for device activation and increased security.
In Arlo Automations, you can:
Add Schedule
Add Arrive/Leave
How do I add a Schedule Automation to my Arlo system?
This article is for the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm and Disarm, visit: How can I set a schedule for my camera in my Arlo account?
You can create one or more Schedule Automations to take different actions for your Arlo system based on the time of day, and day of the week. The Schedule Automations allow your system to take actions such as Change Mode, Record a Video, or Adjust Device Settings.
Configuration
In configurations where you would like to have actions occur at different times of day, you will need to set up separate Schedule Automations, one for each time of day an action should occur.
For example, if you want an automation to set the mode for your system to Arm Away at 9:00am Monday through Friday, and then set the mode to Arm Home starting at 4:00pm Monday through Friday, you will need to set up two separate Schedule Automations.
To create a Schedule Automation:
Alternately, you can set the time to match the sunrise or sunset for your location.
For information on configuring the Sunrise/Sunset feature on Schedule Automations, visit: How does the Sunrise/Sunset feature work for my Scheduled Automation on my Arlo System?
We recommend using a name that reflects the function of the automation. For example, if the automation is to set Arm Away in the morning during weekdays, name the automation “Arm Away Weekday Mornings”.
Available Actions
There are several actions available to configure for Schedule Automations. Available Actions vary depending on the devices installed at your location.
Change Mode. Set the Mode of your system to Arm Away, Arm Home, or Standby.
Record a Video. Trigger a video recording at a specified time on one of your Arlo cameras. If you would like to have multiple cameras record, add an additional Action for each camera.
Turn On a Light / Turn Off a Light. Turn the light on or off your Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight.
For information on configuring the Light Settings for the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight, visit: How do I adjust the light settings on my Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera? – Arlo Secure 4.0
Activate Siren. Activate the Siren on an Arlo device. If you would like multiple devices to sound, add an additional Action for each device.
Send Notification. Trigger a Push Notification or Email to be sent.
Adjust Device Settings. Allows you to automatically modify certain Device Settings for your device. Settings that may be modified with an Automation include Motion Sensitivity, Audio Sensitivity, Recording Duration, and Siren Settings.
Panic. Triggers the Panic response for the Arlo Home Security System. Will activate lights and sirens at your Location. Users with Arlo Professional Monitoring may have 24/7 live security experts contacted as well.
WARNING: Configuring a Panic Action on a Schedule Automation is not recommended.
Default Mode Settings
Settings for several Actions configured above are located in the Default Mode Settings. Default Mode Settings allows you to set defaults for features including Motion Sensitivity, Audio Sensitivity, Recording Length, and Siren.
To modify the Default Mode Settings:
How do I add, edit, or remove rules in my Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby Modes for my Arlo system?
This article is for the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm and Disarm, please visit: About Arlo Modes and Rules
Arlo modes give you control over how your cameras respond to motion, sound, or other changes detected in your home. Modes let you configure your Arlo devices to respond differently depending on your needs. By editing, adding, or removing rules on each mode, you allow your camera to take action as preferred. For example, if you are away from home and don’t expect visitors, you would want motion in your living room to trigger your camera to record and notify you. However, you would not want to receive notifications for motion when you are at home watching TV.
The Arlo Secure App has three modes:
All three modes can be fully customized by adding, editing, or removing rules based on the level of detection you prefer.
When adding a camera to your Arlo system, a new rule to record video upon motion detection is created automatically under the Arm Away mode.
Note: Cloud video recording requires an Arlo Secure subscription. You can also set your camera to record to local storage when connected to compatible Arlo SmartHub or Base Station. In the case that you do not have a subscription or local storage, the new rule created will send push notifications when motion is detected.
To add a rule for a device on a specific mode:
For cameras and video doorbells, the newly created rule will have the following defaults:
* – Audio Detection and Siren features are available on select models.
** – Record video option enabled when subscribed to an Arlo Secure subscription or local storage is configured for the device.
To edit a rule for a device for a specific mode:
Launch the Arlo Secure App or log in to your Arlo account at my.arlo.com.
Note: Settings for most devices update immediately. Some low-power devices such as the Arlo All-in-One Sensor may take up to five minutes before they go into effect. Press the button on the All-in-One Sensor to apply changes immediately.
To remove a specific device from a mode:

What are Arrive/Leave Automations and how do I set it up for my Arlo system?
This article is for the new experience of Arlo Secure with Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm and Disarm, please visit: How does Arlo Geofencing work and how do I set it up?
The Arlo Secure App allows you to set up Arrive/Leave Automations. This is a virtual fence that helps to discover when someone arrives or leaves your home. You can use the Arrive/Leave Automation to set the Mode on your system to Arm Away, Arm Home, or Standby.
To create Arrive/Leave Automations:
Note: You can create an Arrive/Leave event to manage your devices based on when you approach or exit your home. For example when Anyone Arrives, you can automatically set the mode to Standby.
Note: Anyone Arrives is the default setting for a new rule. If desired, select specific people by tapping on Specific People Arrive, then tap on the users to add or remove them from the automation. You can also select Everyone Leaves or Specific People Leave. For more information, visit: How do I add friends on my Arlo Secure App? – Arlo Secure 4.0
Location services permissions are required to be enabled on your mobile device for the Arrive/Leave Automations to work properly:
For Android devices:
By default, your Android device enables the overall location service, though you need to grant permission to each app you install. If location services have been turned off for your Android device, you can switch it back on with a few taps.
For iOS devices:
If location services have been disabled for your iOS device, you can turn it back on with a few taps.
For both Android and iOS devices:
Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled. Enabling Wi-Fi on your mobile device improves location accuracy, even if you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network.

This article is for the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Arm and Disarm, visit: How do I add and manage multiple mobile devices for geofencing?
Arrive/Leave Automations allow your Arlo system to automatically change the mode of your system when someone arrives home, or when someone leaves. By default, Arrive/Leave Automations are set to work for all of your shared users on your Arlo system. You can manage the list of specific people that will trigger the action once they are detected by your device.
To add and manage multiple users:
Note: By default, Anyone Arrives is the pre-set setting.
Note: Your friend must be added to the Arlo account first to be able to be added on Specific People lists. For more information, visit: How do I add friends on my Arlo Secure App? – Arlo Secure 4.0
Arrive/Leave Automation uses a combination of GPS, cellular data, and Wi-Fi data on a per location basis. If you wish to set up your Arrive/Leave automations for multiple locations, you must set up separate Arrive/Leave Automations.
